This is an older recipe that starts with a pouch of Betty Crocker brand sugar cookie mixes. In my opinion these little pouches of mix are underrated. Everyone buys the dough because it's so convenient, but you can do all kind of things with the pouches. These Fiesta Fudge Cookies with chocolate striped white Hershey's Kisses in the middle are a good example.

I need to update the photo, and I'm not sure why I haven't yet because I've made these quite a few times since posting the recipe. Which by the way, was created by Priscilla Yee for an old Mix it Up With Betty cookie mix contest.
The cookies are sweet, fudgy and have a tiny bit of cinnamon to give them a Mexican theme. Make the Fiesta Fudge Cookies for Cinco De May!
Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix
Here's a link to the sugar cookie mix used for making these cookies. After all these years they still haven't changed the size of the package! It's 17.5 oz. If that changes, let me know.
Hershey's Kisses Flavors
Settle down kids and let me tell you a story of the time there was only one flavor of Hershey's Kisses. Just kidding, but that's how I feel when I go to the web page. Back in the day, Hershey's only came in milk chocolate. Then in the 1993 someone got the idea to create Hugs, which are a mix of white and dark chocolate (as seen here). After Hugs came Caramel, Cherry Cordial, Candy Cane and Lava Cake. I've lost track of how many new ones there are, but the last time I checked the site they had Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavored Hershey’s Kisses. If you can find that flavor they would be excellent in these.
Other Recipes Using Betty Crocker Cookie Mix
If you're not in a Fiesta Fudge kind of mood but want to try the cookie mix (or just have some you need to use, my other favorites are the Double Peanut Butter Cookies and my friend Debbie's Baklava Bars.
Recipe

Fiesta Fudge Cookies
Equipment
- The Basics
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup butter or margarine (salted butter)
- 6 oz unsweetened chocolate
- 14 oz can condensed milk (not evaporated)
- 1 pouch 17.5 oz Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 60 pieces white and chocolate-striped Hershey's Kisses
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. In large microwave-safe bowl, heat the butter and chocolate until melted. Microwave settings vary, so use high or one of the lower power levels. Heat 30 seconds longer or until butter is melted and chocolate can be stirred smooth. Alternatively, just do this over the stove.
- Stir condensed milk into chocolate mixture, then add cookie mix and cinnamon and stir until blended.
- Using 1 level tablespoonful of dough for each cookie, shape into 60 balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake for about 7 minutes or until edges appear less shiny. Immediately press a chocolate candy into center of each cookie. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. To get candy to spread slightly on top of cookie, tap edge of each cookie lightly. Let cool completely.

Hi Reena,
For the Fiesta Fudge cookies, the type of candy I use is striped Hershey's Kisses. I believe they are called "Hershey Hugs". The cookies are really cute! Hope you like them.

Anna,
My son's kindergarten bake sale is tomorrow and I was surfing for recipes when I came upon your site and stopped right here. The Fiesta Fudge Cookie is what I think I'm going to make because it looks attractive and kids always love chocolate. I couldnt guess - what brand of striped candy do you recommend for the cookie? Other good looking options? Thanks! Great site!

Hi Mary,
I like that recipe too. Next time, I might try it with cinnamon. I might also change out the Hugs for a different type of Kiss....Hershey keeps coming out with so many new ones.

I made the Fiesta Fudge cookies last weekend. Yummy! Like a brownie cookie with a Hershey's hug. I love cinnamon so I did include it. Could have used just a little more cinnamon for my taste.

Anna - those potato chip bar cookies are amazing. I just made them tonight and had to whisk most of them off to neighbors so I wouldn't keep devouring them. Yummy. Thanks

I put your bar cookies on my list for the seniors. Did you read the comments on the recipe? They cracked me up.
Anna says
