I wanted to make these yesterday, but my grocery store didn’t have any Peanut Butter Cap ‘N Crunch (or advent calendars…..Fuzz desperately wants an advent calendar and everyone is out).
I’m posting this Weird Wonders recipe here for those of you who either keep Peanut Butter Cap 'N Crunch around or are just looking for an excuse to buy some. When I get around to making these, I'll post a picture.
Weird Wonders
3 large egg whites, room temp
1 cup granulated sugar
⅛ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cups Peanut Butter Captain Crunch cereal
½ cup chopped walnuts (toasted first)
1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet)
1 cup shredded coconut
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line 2 cookie sheets with parchment.
In a mixing bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add sugar. Add salt. Continue beating until stiff. Add vanilla. Fold in cereal, nuts, chocolate and coconut.
Drop the batter by teaspoonfuls on to the parchment paper, fitting as many as you can onto each sheet (book says they don’t spread). Place in the preheated oven, turn oven off, shut door, and leave in closed oven for 3 hours.
Store in covered containers.
Makes 4 dozen.

hey - I have advent block calendars still at my HEB. I'll be in your neck of the world Wednesday if you want, I can get you want. I think it was around $15 but it's BIG.
Merry Christmas!

Wow! Congratulations Anna!! I don't get Family Circle Magazine. I'll have to take a look the next time I'm at the store.
As someone else said, do let us know when something great like that happens!
I'm going to check out the Family Circle website right now. Maybe there is something there about your win!
Jackie says
I agree that we would love to hear more about the competitions Anna enters and wins. If I was the Family Circle grand prize winner I'd have been bragging but like you said our Anna is very sweet and humble.
Congratulations Anna!!!!!!!

i saw an interesting advent 'calendar' about a month ago. it was a shiny silver box with drawers that you fill yourself.
maybe those are common, but i'd never seen it done in that way before. i almost wanted it, except it was a little too gaudy for me.
but for sure, if i opened up a door or a drawer for a treat most days in december, i'd absolutely want the treats to be your baked goods. mmm.
Anna says
Allen, I'm kind of the same way with certain cereals.
That's a funny story about the crunch berries. I'm suddenly craving them (even though you mentioned what they looked like in the oven). Mmmmmmmmm. Crunchberries.
I need to go eat dinner.
Anna says
Jackie. Surprise!!! ;).
Kelly, yes. I've checked everywhere. Luckily, Fuzz seems to have forgotten about it. I told her it was my fault and that next year I'd start looking a little earlier.
Kelly says
Did you check Michaels craft store? I was just there and they had advent calendars.
Jackie says
Congratulations!!!
Anna, Why didn't you tell us that you were a Family Circle Grand Prize Winner? Your recipe looks great. Your photos do too.
My family was very impressed that I know someone in a magazine!
Way to go!!!

Dammit, Anna!
I can't keep CCPBC in the house. It's like an addiction. I'll eat the whole damned box!
Atchelly, I made a cap crunch cookie a few months back but I only had crunch berries in the house and they were going stale (my addicition has no love for crunchberries). So, I found a recipe for CC cookies. And I added the berries.
Wow. It looked like someone vomited in my oven. Like a very small person got sick in little spots.
They tasted great, but there was no way I could serve them.

I'm reading you from France. I LOVE your site, I don't know where you find the time or energy to bake (and cook) so much.
I particularly liked your piece on the kitchen scales: here in France, we weigh everything in grammes which explains why I haven't got around to bake many of your recipes...it's a shame really, butyou see I have to find out how much everything is... and well, sometimes it is just easier to rely on my good old recipes.
I'll keep reading you anyway! (and be green with envy!!!)
Best regards, Hélène

Anna,
Our Wegmans has chocolate Advent calendars left. I know because our dog ate one of my sons' calendars and I had to buy another one yesterday. If you want to email me your address, I can mail you one. I have to do a post office run anyway.

I googled advent calendars thinking there might be an interactive one, but I didn't find any I thought would appeal to a little girl. One site did suggest making a paper chain and removing a link every day. And have you seen the calendar on the Nestle site?
Maggi says
If you have a Trader Joe's near you, try there. Mine (here in MD) still had a bunch today.
Anna says
Here are all the places we've looked:
Target
Walgreens
World Market
CVS
H.E.B.
Central Market South
Need to check Central Market North.
We're just too late. We're too far into December.
kate says
Hi.
Target has the cutest reusable advent calendar-ish things. It is a little wooden cabinet with numbered doors and you fill the cubbies with whatever you wish. Very cool. They were in the Gift section.

Sue, I don't see why not. I'm sure peanut butter flavored Cookie Crisp cereal would work too.....that is, if they even make it anymore.
The Reese's puff cereal might be worth using because then you could also make the peanut butter crunch brownies from Pillsbury.
Brenda, I checked two Walgreens. I also checked CVS today AND World Market. No luck. I think I'm just too late in the game.
Brenda says
Walgreen's usually has some Advent calendars. I ordered ours from leaningtree.com. It's a line of Southwest cards and they have beautiful Advent calendars too. Might be a little late for this year though.
Sue says
I'm sure this is stating the obvious, but Hallmark stores often have advent calendars.
As to the cereal, could you sub Reese's cereal? I've never had it, but I think it's just a different shape from the Cap'n Crunch.
Anna says
Joe, I know the one you are talking about....from CI, right? If I buy the Cap 'n Crunch (or wait...isn't it Captain?) I don't know why I keep typing it Cap 'n. I think I have a dumb song about a Cap'n stuck in my head.
Joe says
Hi Anna - we love PB Capt Crunch. I made some peanut butter cereal cookies that were quite good awhile ago that uses this if you're not going to eat the leftover cereal!
Anna says
Hi Kelly,
I will definitely try World Market. A few other stores had them, but are out.
Kelly says
I don't know if you have it near you, but we bought ours at World Market. The dollar tree also has them.
