If you need to use up half a can of condensed milk or are just looking for an eggless chocolate chip cookie recipe, try condensed milk chocolate chip cookies! My recipe is for Mini Condensed Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies. They're tiny, crunchy chocolate chip cookies you can whip up pretty quickly using half a can, quarter of a can or even an eighth of a can condensed milk.
Jump to RecipeMore Crunchy Than Crispy
The recipe is one that evolved from some the regular size condensed milk chocolate chip cookies from Eagle Brand. I tried their recipe but did not love the texture so I changed things up to make the cookies "minis". They are tiny and crunchy. A few batches came out harder than I'd planned due to overbaking or mismeasuring, but the ones I measured carefully (and made with an electric mixer) were lighter. The electric mixer is important because you need to beat some air into that batter.
Weigh the Condensed Milk
To get just the right amount of condensed milk, the best way to measure is by weight. Sometimes what appears to be half a can is not quite half a can. So whether you are making a full batch with half a can or a half batch with a quarter can, weigh the condensed milk.
Mini Condensed Milk Chocolate Chip Dough
This recipe makes about 2 pounds of dough or somewhere around 130 little mini cookies. If you've ever made tiny chocolate chip cookies the traditional way, you know how tedious it can be scooping the marble size blobs of dough. Or maybe it's just me, as I'm very impatient with things like this. So to make the process quicker, this recipe has you roll the dough into cylinders, freeze and slice. If you'd rather just scoop or shape the balls manually, that's fine too.
Mini Chocolate Chips & Optional Nuts
You can make these with regular chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips. With the mini chocolate chips, the dough is much easier to slice. That is, you can make neater circles. But regular size chips work well too. You'll just be picking up the ones that fall out and putting them back in the dough pieces. Also, nuts are really good in these cookies and add crunch plus flavor. I didn't put them in the recipe, but you can add whatever kind of chopped nuts you like.
Recipe
Condensed Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (weigh or spoon flour into cup and level) (260 grams)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon salt (reduce to ¼ if using salted butter)
- ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup packed dark brown sugar (110 grams)
- ⅔ cup condensed milk (198 grams)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate chips or chunks (9 oz)
- ¼ teaspoon smoked sea salt or Maldon salt, optional
Instructions
- In a medium size bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.
- Put the mixer bowl on a scale and add the 196 grams (7 oz or half a can) of condensed milk along with the softened butter, brown sugar and vanilla.
- Beat with an electric mixer for 2 minutes or until lightened.
- Add the flour mixture and stir until blended, then stir in the mini chocolate chips.
- Divide the dough into 4 pieces. On a large sheet of plastic wrap, shape one piece into a rope about 14-15 inches long. Roll in plastic and set on a flat tray or something you can fit into the freezer. Repeat with remaining dough. Keep logs frozen while you preheat the oven.
- Preheat oven to 325F Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Working one rope at a time, slice into ½ inch rounds. You should get around 36 dough pieces per rope. Arrange on sheet spacing only about ¾ of an inch apart at most and sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
- Bake for about 15 to 18 minutes. If your cookies are coming out too dark at 325, you can bake them at 300F for longer time. The bake time might involve a little trial and error. I accidentally over baked some at 375 and still liked them even though they were obviously overdone.
- Transfer the minis to a wire rack to cool and crisp.
