I listen to the radio all day long, so it was a real treat to be on it!
To help promote The Daily Cookie, Cecilia from Field and Feast came over and taped a segment for today's show. If you're interested in hearing it, just click on Field and Feast.
Cecilia and I discussed The Daily Cookie and baked a few batches of our own. We made Michelle Obama's and Ann Romney's cookies, then Cecilia took them to her office for a taste off. We also set up a little giveaway, so take a second and enter for a chance at a copy of The Daily Cookie.
By the way, I set up a little Facebook page for The Daily Cookie and am going to try to update it every day. Hope to see you there!

Thanks so much for the giveaway! I was excited to hear that I'm one of the lucky winners. I've been reading your blog for years, so I know that the recipes will be ones I'll use over and over again. Can't wait to read it and congratulations on publishing it!

Great interview, Anna! My Mom has always loved baking cookies best too. She likes to make sure they are to her liking before gifting them out- which of course is impossible to do with a cake or pie!
Anna says
Thanks for listening, Valerie!
About the FC issue, if you scroll back far enough to the Facebook page, you can read reviews from unsuspecting people who made the recipe as written. One person described the cookies as crepe-like. But I think you are on to something with the idea that most people will just read the recipes but not bother to bake the cookies.
Valerie says
I want to win the cookie baking party. 😉
haha. that's a great idea, though, for an auction donation!
Valerie says
that is so ridiculous that they are letting the wrong recipe stand and just letting the poor unsuspecting reader waste their time and ingredients. I guess they calculate that many more people just read and DON'T make the recipe than do make it. and it would be too embarrassing to admit to the error that EVERYONE will see.
I still haven't gotten to listening to the podcast but I think I have a quiet moment now, so I will try.

Katrina, I used 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup shortening. The cookies were perfect. Also, I emailed Family Circle about the typo. They replied saying the recipe was actually the exact recipe from the White House. They went on to add "but we've tried it with just butter and also liked the results". I'm pretty sure they know there's a typo, but are going to just let the recipe stand as it is and see what happens.
So to anyone interested in making the Michelle Obama cookies, use 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter and 1/2 stick (1/2 cup) shortening. If you follow the recipe as written (2 sticks of butter and 1 cup of shortening), you won't like the results.

Just listened to the podcast. Fun! So you've made the Obama cookies, but adjusted the crazy typo amount of butter--to what amount? Did I tell you I got an email from Family Circle, just letting me know, since I blogged about the cookies that the results are in and the Obama cookie won. They wanted me to put that on my blog, but I've got too many things lined up right now.
I love that you've pictured the Romney cookies here though and just of my own liking, those are the ones I'd like better.

Thanks, Darlene!!

Sue, you can listen to the program by clicking on the above link that Anna provided. Great job, Anna! I really enjoyed the program.

Too bad I missed that! I got to spend the day with my husband and son though so it's all good.

Thanks Bianca!
Mary, thanks for the nice comments on the book. About "hearing" the baking, Cecilia literally holds a little microphone in front of the mixer or whatever is being scooped. I guess she's pretty talented if you felt you were really hearing how I bake. That's the goal.

That is SO cool! Wonderful interview--I loved the comment about how great cookies are to give away...you really have to know the 'right type of person' to be able to give away 1/3 of a pie and know they won't care...
It was really interesting to 'hear' how you bake, too, after reading so many of your recipes.
I am loving reading the book, btw--I have learned so much about technique from the introduction and it amazes me how most of the recipes are totally new!
