Over the holidays I made some new chocolate chip friends. Maybe you know them? They're called Guittard Super Cookie Chips. They're not exactly new, but they started appearing in our local grocery stores recently so of course they ended up in my basket and naturally I had to try their back of the bag recipe. It's called Super Cookie Chips Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Jump to RecipeWhat are Guittard Super Cookie Chips
Before I tell you about the cookies, let me mention the chips and what makes them "super". The Super Cookie Chips are large and flat with a distinct shape that is supposed to help create little air pockets in the cookies. They have 48% cacao, so they are slightly sweet, and they melt beautifully and stay soft. Their flavor is milder than Guittard semisweet and bittersweet wafers, but that might be a benefit if you're making these for kids. They're plenty chocolaty, just sweeter. I like mixing them with the bittersweet wafers.
Back of the Bag Recipe
The recipe from the back of the bag is pretty good. The cookies come out thin, kind of crinkly with crispy edges and plenty of chocolate. I think this is really good recipe for novice bakers who perhaps just bought scales and want to make bakery style cookies.
A couple of things I like about the recipe are that it makes a relatively small batch and that they put the gram amounts by each ingredient. If you have a scale, you can't go wrong. I followed the recipe to get the cookies in the first photo and didn't have to chill the dough. Still, I think the cookies will be even better tomorrow after the dough has had a day or two in the refrigerator.
Of note. This is not a paid endorsement or partnership, I just like new and interesting chocolate chips! And thanks to Guittard for including the weights.

I haven’t seen those! I really like that they put weights in their recipe. I hope that turns into a trend.
